The South

Where tea is sweet and accents are sweeter; summer starts in April; front porches are wide and words are long; macaroni and cheese is a vegetable; pecan pie is a staple; Y’all is the only proper pronoun; chicken is fried and biscuits come with gravy; everything is darling and someone is always getting their heart blessed. -unknown

I am trying out this slightly tweaked layout. I just don't know yet.

Crown Bearer

Brooks was chosen to be one of the crown bearers at the ACA Coming-Home game last night. This is an event that was started after I graduated, so it was all new to me.

Brooks and his good friend, and fellow crown bearer. :)

They both did really well.

On a side note, it was strange to be back inside the school. I haven't been in that gym since 1995. I showed Brent on the wall behind us, a picture of the baseball team that won State, the year I graduated. I felt like I was showing him a picture from 1800. I didn't know but only a handful of people in the entire gym.
It made me miss high-school for a few...seconds.
I do miss seeing my friends everyday though.
Ok, maybe I miss it more than I realized.

Great Weekend

This past weekend we traveled to North Georgia to visit with Brent's grandparents. This was a make-up trip since we didn't get to go at Christmas time. Here are some pictures to recap our weekend.
This was an old mill that is not in use any more. I think this picture is just beautiful. We went to a cultural center at Tallulah Falls. I couldn't help but take a picture of the boys in front of the train exhibit, in honor of Pop.
* Reese had to wear Melany's gloves the whole time we were there. He always loves to accessorize.

In front of the exhibit to show all of the animals that were native to the area. We decided when the weather warms up we want to go back up there and try and hike some of the small trails with the boys. Here is a picture of the gorge. The rest of the weekend was spent just relaxing and getting stuck on playing this game called "Think Tac Toe." It is just a puzzle, but once you start working on it, you have to figure it out. Here it was all put together.

Then here is our "cheat sheet" for next time. It was all consuming. Brooks memorized how to put it together.

Brent took this picture of us sitting in the sunroom, looking outside, on to us in the breakfast room.

I have a picture just like this one of the boys from last year; my, how they have grown. And then to end the trip, we stopped at one of our favorite places to go.....

Thanks Nana and Grandad for a great weekend.

4 Friends

I enjoy blogging for many reasons. Among them being able to reconnect with friends from high-school. I cannot grasp the fact that it has been 15 years this May.

Since I began blogging I have reconnected with 4 amazing people. These girls write about their true feelings, true emotions, and how God has blessed them and continues to bless them. Right now they each have a lot on their shoulders.

Erika recently blogged about the disappointment of a lost pregnancy and the pure joy of finding out that they are now expecting! I know that God is watching and waiting until He can let this little angel come and live with them.
****update: I found out this afternoon that Erika lost the baby. Please pray for her and her husband as they deal with this loss. Words fail me, but pray that God knows how to heal her heart.

Kristin also recently found out that she and her husband are expecting. They trusted God to lead them, and they followed. I pray that God continues to bless this entire family with a new angel soon.

Tamara wrote about her mother’s health problems. She is such a strong support for her mother and I know that God is holding her mother in His hands. Please pray for Tamara and her mother to cast their worries on God during this stressful time, and that He will heal her mother quickly.

Carrie has been struggling with a sick child. There aren’t too many things worse than dealing with a sick child who is not quite old enough to understand what is going on. Sickness of any kind is stressful. I pray that the road gets easier for Carrie and that her son will continue to improve.

4 friends, 4 different lives,
1 God to look to.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

Girls, I want you all to know I am praying and thinking of each of you daily.

More Reesisms

The other morning at breakfast:
(whining) "Mommy, Harley's looking at me!"

The other night Brent wasn't feeling well and Reese told my mom, "Daddy's golf ladder is hurting his tummy."

Coldest Yet?

With this picture, we know that it is the coldest it has ever been since we have been living in Wetumpka. There was ice in the pond!

The ice is half way out into the pond below.

Even though I don't have a picture, the ducks were still out playing in the water. CRAZY!

Santa came to Brent and I.....really!

Santa Claus came to our house this year.

Really.

I'm not making a joke... he really did.

On Christmas night we were cleaning up things in the living room. We found this toy, and when I say toy, it was more like a computer gadget for an adult. See the link here. I didn't buy it. Brent didn't buy it. I called all of the family members that were at our house that day. No one brought it, nor did anyone know anything about it.

SANTA!!!!

This morning I was trying to decide what to wear. It is FRIGID in Alabama right now. I don't own too many things that would keep me warm in 19 degree weather! I had some clothing laying on the floor beside my chest of drawers. It was laying there because it won't fit in the drawers. (I KNOW that means I need to clean out my drawers, but that isn't the point of this story.) I look over at it and there is this shirt that would be perfect to wear under a sweater. I have never seen it before. I don't know where it came from.

SANTA!!!!!

I am sticking with the story that Santa really did come to see us. In fact, I rang our Polar Express bell that was hanging on the tree, and I could hear it ring.

I guess we made the "nice" list this year.

Reesisms

1. Overheard from the backseat of the car the other day, "Brooks I just threw a booger on you."

(nice)

2. Reese telling me that he didn't want to go to bed until "thirty-mine." I asked him if "thirty-mine" is what he said, and he said, "Yes, it is after twelve."

3. Yesterday at lunch he said, "I wish I was a fish." I said, "A fish?" He said, "Yes so I could swallow up Jonah. It would be all yucky inside of me, and then I would spit him out."

Finally...some Christmas pics

I somehow managed to delete a bunch of pictures I took at Christmas. Oh well!

Brooks sitting on our bed waiting patiently to go see what Santa brought.
This is Reese waiting....not so patiently.Look, it is The Clone Wars (upside down).Did I ever mention Reese loves swords? This was one of the gifts that Gammie gave Reese. (You can tell in his eyes that he was still sick.)Now he is Knight Buzz Lightyear!Brooks learning how to play the Wii.We had a good time gathering with friends and family this Christmas. We are so glad Reese is finally better and Harley is back with us. He is on the mend and is loving all of the attention and "inside time" he is getting.

I hope everyone had a safe and Happy Holiday season!
