The South

Where tea is sweet and accents are sweeter; summer starts in April; front porches are wide and words are long; macaroni and cheese is a vegetable; pecan pie is a staple; Y’all is the only proper pronoun; chicken is fried and biscuits come with gravy; everything is darling and someone is always getting their heart blessed. -unknown

The Innocence of a Child

Don't you just love the innocence of a child.

Last night Brooks and I went to a Mexican restaurant together, just me and him. I had decided to let him get a soft drink with caffiene rather than the usual Sprite. After the waiter took our order and walked away, Brooks said, "Mom, do they have lemonade here?" I knew where this conversation was going but said, "I don't know Brooks, why do you ask?" He said, those people over there have "lemonade."

I was not about to have the conversation about what was really in their glasses. Not because of what it was, but because of the numerous questions I would get. I am not ready for Brooks to grow up. I am not ready for him to notice all of the things of the world.

I want him to stay in his little world, where "STUPID" is a bad word.
Where it is ok to hug your best friend, and people not look at you because two boys are hugging on each other.
Where it is still ok to be compasionate to others and not be looked at "funny."
Where it is still ok to want to sleep with a comforting object.
Where it is still ok to kiss your mom in public.
Where I am the number one girl in his life.

I know all of this is going to change one day, and has to change, but I want it to just slow down a little.

More baseball

I tried to get some action shots of Brooks at his game last night but didn't fare too well.

Another attempt:

Our cute 3rd base coach:
This ended up being my clearest pic of the night. I guess I will try again next time.
(he wasn't too happy with me taking his picture)

The green eyes

Just a photo update of Brooks' "bonk" on the head from last week.

He did end up with two black eyes, but he keeps correcting me and saying they are green.

Our first Baseball Injury

We now have had our first baseball injury. Brooks was hit in the head tonight by a bat at the game, during our warm up time. At least it was during the other child's backswing, and not a full force swing. The goose-egg immediately popped out! (these pics don't do it justice)

I felt so bad for Brooks! One of our coaches immediately put ice on it, and another child's mom checked him out (nurse) to make sure he was ok. He teared up just a little, but didn't cry. I felt just as bad for the child that hit him. He was bawling! Let's hope this is all that happens this year!

P.S. We lost the game. Such a bad night.

New Haircut

So Brooks talked me into giving him a hair cut like his daddy's. I told him I wasn't going to cut his hair that short for the first time, in case he didn't like it.

So here we have before:

And here is after:

I think it makes him look a lot more grown up, and he loves it. (I do miss those curls though.)

Happy Spring!

If spring came but once a century instead of once a year, or
burst forth with the sound of an earthquake and not in
silence, what wonder and expectation there would be
in all the hearts to behold the miraculous change.

Rick and Bubba

This past Tuesday morning, Mom, Dad and I got up early, and I mean real early, and traveled to Birmingham to go watch the Rick and Bubba show. Mom had gotten Golden Ticket Seats for us to go, and I was so excited. I have been listening to them on the radio for over 10 years now.

Bubba had just purchased a new Apple Ipad the night before so he was showing it to us during the commercial breaks. He even passed it around. I must say, it kind of made me want one.

This was them during a commercial break right before they were about to go back on the air.

At the end of the show they gladly took pictures with whomever wanted them.
Here are Mom and Dad with Rick and Bubba.
Here is me with Speedy.
They all were super nice and so kind. Speedy said as we were leaving, "It's people out there like y'all that make us do the show." How cool is that!

3 Rivers

This past Monday was "opening day" for the 3 Rivers Cotton Systems Baseball Team. I have to admit I was a little pumped too! Here they are getting their pre-game pep talk.Brooks up to bat. He didn't hit the ball this game like he did in their scrimmage, but he didn't let that get him down. And their is a handsome third base coach. Who is that?Brooks in right field. Here is Brooks in the dug out (second from left -of kids sitting) with his fellow teammates. They won 10-3. What a great way to open the season!I just love those little guys!

A Brooks Funny!

Wednesday night on the way home from church, Reese and I were riding in a separate vehicle from Brent and Brooks. I left before Brent did and had a head start heading home. When Reese and I got to the Redland Road area, I noticed an awful smell. It smelt like death! I quickly realized that it wasn't Reese. Reese said, "Momma what is that poo-poo smell?" I still don't know what it was, but it was horrible.
A couple of minutes later, Brent called me on the cell phone, and I knew it was about the smell. Before I even said "Hello," I said, "Did you make that smell?" Brent laughed and said that he had falsely accused Brooks of making that smell.
Now to the funny part....
Brooks told Brent, "Maybe Reese pooped in his underwear and we are just now catching up to the smell."

Circus

We had a great time at the circus on Sunday afternoon. It was the last event of of our fun-filled weekend.
It was a small 1 ring circus. It was still impressive. They had an illusionist that performed magic tricks. My children didn't know what to think. Brooks said it was "real magic."

This was a motorcycle rider with acrobats attached.
Reese was impressed.
So were Brooks and Pop.
These tightrope walkers were good.
I was probably the most impressed with the trained house cats. WOW!
This picture is blurry but these ladies were hanging by their hair!
And of course...elephants!
We had a great day!

The Air Show

These are pictures of our outing to the air show at Maxwell AFB this past weekend. They are in reverse order and blogger is not cooperating, but I don't want to redo the whole post.

This was in front of the Raptor. It was the only plane (that I saw) that was roped off and being guarded by armed guards. One of Brent's friends was there and telling us about this plane. Shortly, he will begin his training to learn how to fly it.
These were the famous Thunderbirds.

This picture reminds me of the scene in Top Gun..."Keeping up foreign relations."

I don't know who this goof ball is.
Or these.
These planes were impressive too. I don't know what kind they were, probably because I wasn't paying close enough attention.

The Army's Golden Knights Parachute Team. I can't believe how high they were when they jumped out of the air plane.

Some other huge plane taking off. Hello Mr. Pilot. I can see you in there. We had a great time with some great friends. The boys were tired when it was all said and done, but Brent and I enjoyed it!
