The South

Where tea is sweet and accents are sweeter; summer starts in April; front porches are wide and words are long; macaroni and cheese is a vegetable; pecan pie is a staple; Y’all is the only proper pronoun; chicken is fried and biscuits come with gravy; everything is darling and someone is always getting their heart blessed. -unknown

Day in Photos

I was working from home today so I just wanted to share some pics I took. This was the boys at snack time. They know they have to stay in the kitchen, so they get as close to the living area as they can so see the tv.

I took this picture so that you can see how Reese looks out of the corner of his eyes to see things far away. We go back to the eye doctor in August.

And how can I forget lunch.. fish sticks with KETCHUP!!!

Sweet Spirit

Sometimes children teach us so much. I find myself thinking a lot about the sweet things that Brooks does, and the funny things that Reese does. For example: I was getting on to Reese the other day for touching the treadmill. (We keep it unfolded all the time, and the key to start it on a high shelf. He couldn’t hurt himself but I still want him to stay away from it.) I said, “Reese! Come here!” He then said to me, “What did I say?” That phrase is what I always say to the boys when I get on to them about something. Apparently I say it too much! I thought it was funny.
Brooks has always had a sweet spirit. When I went to pick up the boys from mom’s house she bragged on how good Brooks was that day. I said, “Brooks, that makes me so happy.” He said, “Momma, and that makes God happy too. You know that the Bible says ‘Children, obey your parents.’” I just smiled and said, “You’re right.”
Sometimes I think that Reese is not going to have this same sweet spirit. I was wrong yet again though. Yesterday morning I was getting Reese dressed for the day and out of the blue he said. “I lub you.” Then he said “Kiss” and leaned over and kissed me. I realize that I need to seek out the sweet spirit in both of my children. I love them so much.

Just Beachy!!!!

I don't know why I haven't blogged all week. I guess I just didn't have anything interesting to blog about. My mother and I made plans for a week long beach trip for the first part of May. I can't wait!!! It will be me and her and the boys. Brent and my dad may come down for part of the week. Then my co-workers and I planned a beach trip for one weekend in June. We may leave town on Thursday evening and leave the 3 people that cannot attend this trip to handle things for us on Friday. My boss just has to get the "big boss's" approval. I guess we shall see.

I guess I never updated you guys on Reese's sicknesses. The last time we went to the doctor (which was like the 4th time in a month) Dr. T said he was leaning more to him having asthma. He is finishing a 20 day round (yes I said 20!) of antibiotics. He is also on Cingulair until the first part of June and he is taking Zyrtec for another week. It all seems to be helping him so that is something to be thankful for. He is still weezy in the mornings, but it gets better as the day goes on.

My husband brought me breakfast in bed this morning. How nice was that? He is such a sweetie! I hope you all have a good weekend and a great next week!

Happy Birthday!

Today is Erika's Birthday. In her honor I would like to share some pictures. Carrie did this for me on my birthday and it meant so much to me! It is always wonderful to walk down memory lane and think back to those special times that helped shape our adolesence. I hope these pictures will put a smile on her face, and my fellow high-school bloggers too. (I wished I had time to find some more pictures, but I grabbed these as I was running out of the house this morning.)

What is up with my bangs?

Aren't we all cute at our chorus performance!

I don't know what to say about this picture! Kristin is excited about something!

Hope you have a great day!

Precious Memories

A note from Brent:

I know we all have tough days that invoke memories of loved ones who have passed on to their eternal reward. Today is such a day for me. For those who didn’t know my sister, Amanda, she was 12 years old when she left this life on April 2, 1996, after a life of medical problems and even a heart transplant. So, in her honor, I would like to share a memory.

On February 14, 1996, I went to my college mailbox to get what I hoped would be something from home (Texas) with a few bucks inside. Mom was good for a few bucks from time to time, which was quickly spent on a sweet tea and hash browns at Waffle House. What I found instead was a small carefully handwritten envelope with a homemade Valentine card inside from Amanda. I’m sure she spent a couple of hours drawing and coloring the hearts on front and composing the message inside. Part of the message was this, “Please hurry and come home soon. I’m bored!” No offense to my brother, Byran, but she always thought of me as the fun and crazy one. She also called me “MacGyver” because she thought I could fix anything. Her personality was such that she was always thinking of other people and spending her allowance on gifts for people to cheer them up. I remember fondly how that Valentine card put a smile on my face, because I knew she was thinking of me. Well, today I am thinking of her. I still miss her, but she had to “leave the surly bonds of earth to touch the face of God.” (Ronald Reagan)

A Day Out with Thomas

The boys and my parents and I went to see Thomas the Tank Engine on Saturday in Calera. We have been the past 3 years. The boys really enjoyed it, including my dad.

This was Reese seeing Thomas for the first time.

Brooks in front of Thomas.

We rode the train.

We had a great day full of memories!
Here is Brooks the past three years.
