The South

Where tea is sweet and accents are sweeter; summer starts in April; front porches are wide and words are long; macaroni and cheese is a vegetable; pecan pie is a staple; Y’all is the only proper pronoun; chicken is fried and biscuits come with gravy; everything is darling and someone is always getting their heart blessed. -unknown

Just catching up...

I am happy to report a rather un-eventful January at the Hatcher household. A couple of weekends ago, we got to spend some time in north Georgia visiting Brent's grandparents. There was so much ice and snow everywhere! We just stayed inside and kept warm.

Reese has really started coming around in his behavior. I almost thought, "He is actually outgrowing the terrible twos." I don't know if I can use that excuse though, since he is 4. Lately, if you just keep reminding him to be good, and keep praising him when he is good, he seems to act like an angel.

Brooks got all A's again on his report card. I didn't expect it this time, which made it all the more wonderful! He is such a people pleaser almost to a fault. It is so hard to teach a child how to be a leader, instead of a follower.

Reese came down with Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease last week, and surprise surprise....Brooks woke up with it today. Luckily they both seemed to have a mild case of it, without much discomfort. Leave it to my kids to have a strange illness.

I am excited about an upcoming trip to Savannah for Brent and I. We honeymooned there almost 12 years ago, and have wished to go back ever since. I am going to be sure and take about a million pictures!

A new chapter.

I only had a sister growing up, and the closest thing I had to a brother was my cousin John. I would go to John's house and delight in playing with his toys that were so different than what I was used to.

I say all that to say this. Brooks got a BB gun for Christmas. Gasp!

This is a new chapter in my life. I don't know what to think about this. This is all foreign to me. A gun???
Christmas day was rainy at our house so he didn't get to fire it that day, but about a week ago he went out with Brent for his first lesson. They lined up the empty coke cans and sat down for his first attempt. He missed his first shot, but made pretty much every one after that.
He was so proud and excited to show me the hole in the can! Good job Brooks and be careful, or you might "shoot your eye out kid!" (Everyone that he has told about his gun has replied "Don't shoot your eye out." He keeps saying, "Why does everyone keep telling me that?!")

Christmas pictures.

I haven't been in a blogging mood lately, and I don't really have a reason for that. I haven't had anything all that interesting going on lately. We did have a wonderful, low key Christmas this year. My parents, sister and brother-in-law came over and we had a relaxing day.

Here are just a couple of my favorite pictures from that day.

Brooks opening his long awaited DS.
Reese getting a lesson in how to hold his new guitar. And of course the day wouldn't be complete without some laser guns.I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday season!
