The South

Where tea is sweet and accents are sweeter; summer starts in April; front porches are wide and words are long; macaroni and cheese is a vegetable; pecan pie is a staple; Y’all is the only proper pronoun; chicken is fried and biscuits come with gravy; everything is darling and someone is always getting their heart blessed. -unknown

Who knows..

Since it has been 4 days now since Brooks has developed this rash, I can say that I do not believe that it is Hand Foot and Mouth Disease. I still don't know what it is but I just believe it is some type of viral rash. Instead of calling it a rash, you could say it is a skin discoloration because you can't even feel it. He has felt fine this whole time, so I guess we will move on from this.

Reese has a cold. I am actually thankful though, he hasn't been sick since the first week of May, so this has been a long stretch of "wellness" for him. He takes after me so much in that at night he is ok until he lays down, and then he starts coughing. If you sit him up he stops, and even falls back to sleep, but when he lays back down it starts all over again. I had thought about getting in the recliner and just letting him sleep on me, but I can't sleep like that. I have to have my bed, with my pillow, with the covers fixed just right, etc. to be able to sleep. We will see what tonight brings.

I got a lot of great school uniforms for Brooks at the consignment sale last week. I think he is pretty much ready to start school now. I am going to go back on the half price days and see if there is anything else that he could use. I am so thankful to the ladies for doing this. It sure saves a lot of money!

I am working from home today, with both boys here, so I may have pulled my hair out by the end of the day. Here's to hoping I am not bald tonight!

Interesting Morning

On the way to church this morning, I looked back at Brooks and noticed this rash all over his legs. I asked him if it itched and he said no. When we got to church Brent inspected it too and we both just looked at each other like "well what is this?" My aunt was getting out of her car so we called her over to look at it, she didn't know either. So, she took Reese inside and Brent and I came up with our plan. He called Melany and she met him to go see the doctor this morning, while I went on to church. The doctor said it is Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease. Well that is one we haven't had yet. Brooks just has to stay away from children and pregnant women this week. I think we can handle that. The good thing is, he doesn't feel bad at all.

Not to leave Reese completely out.... he has said two funny things today that made me laugh out loud.
1. On the way to church this morning he said, "Mom, I smell bacon." (please note we had waffles for breakfast)
2. During church this morning he said OUT LOUD "Mom did you poot?"
Maybe his "smeller" is just broke!

While on our trip

we took a detour to Etheridge, TN. There is a small community of Amish that live there. We bought a map that showed where they lived and set off. We stopped at a few different places and Amy's mom bought some corn and onions.

My mother has been on a bus trip to the Amish country in Pennsylvania. She said that the people we saw in Tennessee where much poorer than the ones up north. I was just amazed at how they lived. At one place we stopped, you could see into the kitchen and actually see the pump they use to pump water!

Below are some pictures I took. These are the only ones that turned out half way decent because the Amish people do not like to have their picture made. Because of that, I took these pictures from inside the car. I didn't want to offend them. The best ones were of the children. I could have just stayed there all day and watch them.

Guess who I went and saw.....

The Carr family, mom, and I all went to see Vince Gill in concert at the Ryman on Thursday night. He was soooo good! I am not a big fan of bluegrass music, but it was a wonderful concert. He came out and said that his back was on its way out, so if he acted funny, he wasn't drinking or on drugs. HAHA!
He started the night without any shoes on because he said they were making his feet hot, and by this point in the concert he took his jacket off. He seems like a really down to earth guy.
This was him singing with his daughter Jenny. They sounded really good together!

This was him singing "Go Rest High on that Mountain". The reason he got to sing that one was because Ricky Skaggs came by to play with him. It was probably my favorite song of the night.
What a wonderful time we had!

A Reese Funny

When I went to pick up Reese yesterday, he told me about his trip to go ride the merry-go-round.

"Momma, I ride the horsey go round.....it go round like dis.... (he gestures in a circle).....I can't like it.....I cry.......I go like dis "AAHHH"........like dat."

I was impressed that it was a whole story. He doesn't like merry-go-rounds and car washes. Other than that he is pretty much fearless. I guess we will stay away from these two things for the time being.

Oh, he also doesn't like it when Brent and I hug. He will just have to get over that one!
