The South

Where tea is sweet and accents are sweeter; summer starts in April; front porches are wide and words are long; macaroni and cheese is a vegetable; pecan pie is a staple; Y’all is the only proper pronoun; chicken is fried and biscuits come with gravy; everything is darling and someone is always getting their heart blessed. -unknown

VBS - Summer Soulympics!

This year Brent and I were in charge of VBS at church.  With the help of others, the title Summer Soulympics was decided upon.  In the auditorium, the kids were divided among their ages, as usual, but they were also grouped by countries.  All of the countries that we used, were ones that our church supports in various mission efforts.

I will not even begin to thank everyone who helped make it all possible.  There are too many people to thank.  In fact, we had just as many volunteers to help this year, as we did kids.  And there were plenty of kids!

Happy 80th!

Over Memorial Day weekend we celebrated Brent's grandmother's 80th birthday.  We spent several nights at Rock Island State Park in Tennessee.  It was a beautiful area.
The boys enjoyed hiking around the waterfall!  It was very impressive!
I even contributed to the grilling by offering my hairdryer.  All our meals were wonderful!
Each member of the family "performed" for Nana.  Brent and I came up with a skit, and Brent played the roll of Nana.  It turned out really funny!
Happy Birthday Nana!

More DQ Blizzards

Brooks had a great year playing baseball.  It is amazing to me to see how much he matures and grows from one year to the next.

We still have our favorite helmet.

He loves being catcher!  Brent got him some cool gear this year to help him out.  They are going to have fall ball in Wetumpka this year, and Brooks will have to move up to the 9-10 year old division, which is.......KID PITCH!  We will see if he still enjoys catching then ;)

So happy to see that he was watching his third base coach as he rounded 1st.  (It wasn't always like this.)

Our wonderful team!!!

Brent did an awesome job coaching the boys!!!

This may be my favorite picture of all.  Love that boy!

DQ Blizzards

Brooks had a great year playing baseball.  The kids and parents all got along so well, that we were all sad for the season to end.  This was a slideshow I put together for the end of the year party.  I may post more baseball pics of Brooks this week.

Kindergarten Graduation!

Well, the year went by extremely fast.  Kindergarten graduation has come and gone.  It is a little bittersweet, but I couldn't be happier for Reese.  He has come a long way!

Walking in
Reese was chosen, along with some of his fellow classmates, to lead a song.

The hat has started migrating around the head.
Reese has to be different :)

I love this picture of him receiving his diploma.

Reese being Reese

1.  Since Reese has been playing ball, I have noticed that he likes to move around a lot in the outfield.  I am not surprised.  Last night he made me laugh though.  I looked out there and one of his coaches had yelled at him to get ready.  He stands with his legs a little apart and crouches down a little and puts his hands on his knees.  I am thinking, "Well good, now he is ready."  Then I look out there and he is looking over his shoulder at his rear end, and viewing it as he shakes it.

2.  Melany called me Monday and said that Reese had thrown up at lunch at school.  I immediately thought to myself, "he seemed fine this morning."  I started to ask her if he was not feeling well and she said not to worry about it.  The story she got when questioning him on what happened was this:  "I was eating and watching (child) across from me.  He was playing with his banana and making stuff come out of it and it made me throw up."

3.  This morning when I went and woke him up for school, with his eyes still closed from sleep he said, "Mom, do you know what happened in my dream?"  I said, "no Reese, I don't know."  He said, "Well, you were in it." (as if I should know because of that)

Love him!

Why don't I blog as much as I used to?

We went to the Lads to Leaders Convention the first part of this month.  I was so mad at myself because I forgot my camera.  Oh well!
The boys had a great time.  It was Reese's first time in that big hotel, and to watch him look up for the first time was priceless.  Brooks placed 2nd in Speech, and was a finalist in Song Leading.  His puppet group was first place!  I was so proud of him!! Reese led a song, and read a scripture as well.
The unhappy highlight of the trip was when Brent and I came up on a situation where we saw a mother scolding her child above and beyond what was called for.  We didn't know what had happened.  We saw the mother yelling at the child, and then looking over the side of their 38th floor balcony, down to the lobby.  We were curious!!  Brent told a kid in our youth group what we had seen, and this kid decided to go ask what happened.  The child had apparently dropped his Ipod touch over the side of the railing.  The only thing I could figure out is that the mom was so upset because that could have killed someone had it hit them on the lobby level.  Crazy scene!
Baseball is in full swing.  Reese's team is doing real well and has won most of their games.  Reese has a hard time paying attention, probably due to his hyperactivity, and you know, he is 5.  After almost every pitch, one of us will yell, "Reese, Pay Attention!"  It is a lot of fun!
Brooks team is struggling, but having a great time being together.  (Which is what he will remember.)
Brent gave us all a scare this past weekend.  He was taken from work to the hospital with stroke like symptoms.  We still don't know what happened, and after an overnight stay, we are no closer to answers.  They have done almost every test that can be done, and all have come back normal, which is a blessing.  We may never know.  I told a couple of friends, that after all this happened, it makes you thankful for your family, and your church family as well.  The love and support was amazing!
We are drawing near the end of school which means Kindergarten Graduation!!!  Now if I could only explain to my child why he has to wear a cap and gown....
