The South

Where tea is sweet and accents are sweeter; summer starts in April; front porches are wide and words are long; macaroni and cheese is a vegetable; pecan pie is a staple; Y’all is the only proper pronoun; chicken is fried and biscuits come with gravy; everything is darling and someone is always getting their heart blessed. -unknown

Sweet Spirit

Sometimes children teach us so much. I find myself thinking a lot about the sweet things that Brooks does, and the funny things that Reese does. For example: I was getting on to Reese the other day for touching the treadmill. (We keep it unfolded all the time, and the key to start it on a high shelf. He couldn’t hurt himself but I still want him to stay away from it.) I said, “Reese! Come here!” He then said to me, “What did I say?” That phrase is what I always say to the boys when I get on to them about something. Apparently I say it too much! I thought it was funny.
Brooks has always had a sweet spirit. When I went to pick up the boys from mom’s house she bragged on how good Brooks was that day. I said, “Brooks, that makes me so happy.” He said, “Momma, and that makes God happy too. You know that the Bible says ‘Children, obey your parents.’” I just smiled and said, “You’re right.”
Sometimes I think that Reese is not going to have this same sweet spirit. I was wrong yet again though. Yesterday morning I was getting Reese dressed for the day and out of the blue he said. “I lub you.” Then he said “Kiss” and leaned over and kissed me. I realize that I need to seek out the sweet spirit in both of my children. I love them so much.

It's hard when you have two boys with totally different personalities, I know!! Sometimes I have to stop and remind myself to embrace their differences. Both of you guys are adorable. Little Brooks was so sweet asking questions during the puppet show last night at church.

Oh, that just made me smile! It's so hard not to compare both the kids to each other. Kate seems so much sweeter than Brooks, then there are times that they flip/flop.

Those stories are so sweet! Both your boys are absolutely precious. Brooks does set a high standard, but I know Reese will be equally special despite his differences from Big Brother.

That made me laugh and smile. I can't wait to be a parent.

I know exactly what you mean. Shey is the first one to comment on new things and say how he likes them, Peyton, on the other hand . . . This morning, Peyton was so tired, so I just sat and held him for a moment as he whined and cried about it. I'm trying to be more understanding.
