I'm a girl. I can't help it.

So "Santa" went and tried to do some Christmas shopping today. I went to the toy store knowing exactly what Brooks had written on his Christmas list. (Basically everything in the store!) I was able to find one thing for him that I was excited about. Other than that, I am having trouble.

Up until this point, I have been able to get cute, "little kid" gifts for him. But this year it is all different. He wants every kind of action figure they make. He wants Transformers, Star Wars things, and toys that he just thought looked cool, but didn't even know what they were. So here comes my problem. I walked around today looking and looking and I didn't even see anything that looked like fun. Then I realized what the problem is. I AM A GIRL!!!

Oh to go back to the days of wondering what new Barbie Santa was going to bring me. Then me and Christina or Monica would have fun dressing them up and creating a whole life for them. Sometimes we would even have fashion shows with them. What about the Cabbage Patch Kids? I remember going and buying a diaper bag just to carry all my doll clothes in. (As you can see I was not a tomboy.)

I didn't grow up with a brother, so there weren't any action figures, etc. even in my house. I mean what do you do with these toys? Do you make up stories about them, or is that just a girl thing?

Sadly, I didn't even go down the Barbie aisle because I knew it would only make me sad.

Now don't misunderstand me, I LOVE MY BOYS! I wouldn't trade them for anything! I just feel at a loss at what to get. Let me leave you with these thoughts....

I LOVE MY BOYS!
I LOVED MY BARBIES!
BOYS TOYS ARE GOING TO GIVE ME PROBLEMS.

I AM A GIRL AND PROUD OF IT!

I don't know. I am glad I don't have to worry about that. I have a brother but he is nine years younger than me. I think the action figures are used like we used Barbies but to blow stuff up with?! LOL

Trust me, as a mom of 2 wonderful men, a day will come when you will know all action figures by name and what they can and can't do. You will delight in building and playing with these items!! I too loved my dolls, but I also learned to LOOOOVE the He-Man and who his friends and enemies were! Ninja Turtles - loved them. Star Wars - they had it all and would arrange them and have conversations with them(guy conversation) just like I did with my dolls...every now and then we still get Kirk and Joey a figure for their stocking because it was so much a part of them. I loved turning the transformers into figures and I was like a heat seeking missle getting the one they loved. Give it time - you will wonder how you ever lived without those action figures:)

Yeah, I have been informed by Brandon that action figures, trucks, etc. do NOT talk to each other. Not sure what they are supposed to do (well, I know what trucks are supposed to do)...hit each other, maybe?

I'm with you - girl toys are MUCH better :)

I have the same issue! Because of Joe's schedule last year, he didn't do any Christmas shopping for the boys and was so disappointed with my choices. Too "fundumacational," I guess. But when he looked over my purchases and said, "Did you not buy a single sword or ball?" I just couldn't understand why I needed to since we already possess multiples of those items. But I guess the girls do have more than one doll. So this year I'm turning shopping for the boys over to Joe! Although, I don't know how we'll please Christian. He wants a treehouse he can live in and a barnyard full of animals!

I remember my Mother and another lady from church going shopping together for boy toys. Maybe you should shop with a "Mom with experience"... poor girl didn't even have a brother to help you out!

Todd is all in to the action figures, too. He tells me I play like a girl. HMM, I wonder why? I wished I could buy Cabbage Patch Kids. However, some girls toys are really expensive!

Ohhhh, I love boy toys. Legos are so much fun for you. They have the action figure part for them too. Sean plays with the little men and I help build the things. They even have the pink ones now and we all play together.
I always would tell my friends I hope I had boys because I would much rather play with little boys toys. I was such a tomboy growing up. I played and played with Castle Greyskull with my brother growing up. We used to fight over his Christmas presents. Ha!

Shey actually has his action figures talking to each other, so I think they do pretend that way as well. I got Peyton some Ben 10 toys and I have to admit I do love that cartoon.

Turn it over to Brent! I returned toys last year that I thought Austin would enjoy and once unwrapped he wasn't excited about at all. The same with Halloween costumes. I had bought guns for the cowboys, but when Charlie saw them he said they needed different ones and a holster. He went and bought the correct ones. Let Brent live his childhood again and do the shopping for the boys.

Julie's idea really hit home - Stevie and I would go together, he always knew just what they would like - he too relived his childhood and all 3 of them had fun - I was schooled in the ways of action figures....BUT when I got 2 daughters of the heart - oh my - it was MY TIME! Emmy

I can completely understand!! Me and Louise just know we are going to be cursed (and I use that term loosely) with having all boys...don't get me wrong...I will be thankful for healthy boys...but I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO HANDLE BOYS!!! All we had growing up was barbies and cabbage patch kids!! So I am scared to death about having boys..... :/

Bless you!! Believe it our not, they do make up stories to go with those action figures...it's just not fun girlie stories...it's fighting and saving the world stories!

Rereading this post and the comments made me think of an SNL skit years ago, a fake commercial for "Chess for Girls." It was pink and glittery with bubbles that came out of the pieces. Sadly, I thought I would have loved it as a child!
