The South

Where tea is sweet and accents are sweeter; summer starts in April; front porches are wide and words are long; macaroni and cheese is a vegetable; pecan pie is a staple; Y’all is the only proper pronoun; chicken is fried and biscuits come with gravy; everything is darling and someone is always getting their heart blessed. -unknown

Forgot the Conditioner

I put on Facebook on Friday that I forgot to put conditioner in my hair that morning, and wondered what the day would bring since it started off not quite right. I should have just gone back to bed.

I was later to work than usual, because I went to get my flu shot. Then after being at work for just a little bit, mom called and said that while dad was having a stress test done, he started feeling funny. He went to get checked out because he had been having some dizziness and felt like his heart was racing. They hooked him up to a monitor and he was having ventricular tachycardia. I left work to go stay with Reese so mom could go be with dad. They put dad in ICU and decided to do a heart catherization. Thankfully, there were no blockages etc. He is now just hanging out in the hospital until Monday, when they can do some kind of nuclear imaging test.

So I went and stayed with Reese. I really needed to make him a doctor's appointment because he had been coughing since last Friday. He seemed to not be getting any better. I called the doctor and the only appt. time they had was at 2:30. That was ok, but it messed things up for my sister. See, she was supposed to go have her wedding portrait pictures taken at 4 on Friday. The plan was that mom would go with her, but that didn't work out. I was going to try and go, but that didn't work out either. Luckily, her friend went with her.

All of this rambling was to say that sometimes days just don't go like you plan for them to. If there is ever another day where I forget to put conditioner in my hair, I am going to go back to bed, and ask every family member of mine to do the same.

*My dad is doing really well right now, and just waiting to have some more tests run. Please keep him in your prayers.

The Fair

We had a great time at the fair on Friday. The boys seemed to enjoy it, even though Reese was developing a cold.
This is the first year that Reese has really enjoyed riding the rides.

I even rode some too. I am surprised the ride didn't break.
We got there early enough that there weren't big lines or lots of crowds.

I had to tell the boys to stop splashing water on each other on this ride. Sigh!
They both loved the miniture ferris wheel. It was neat.
I love this picture. More than just how it looks. My dad works for the railroad, and when they used to have cabooses on all the trains, he was the guy that rode on the caboose. Looking at the picture it makes me think of him.
Watch out world. This munchkin is going to be ready to ride everything next year!
Well maybe not everything. Brooks and I went down the slide. You remember the slide don't you? You ride down the big tall thing on a potato sack. Brooks was on it with me and we went down FAST! I mean FAST! I remember us coming up off of it at the end! I think it scared him and somehow I skinned my ankle between the sack and slide. I don't even know how it happened. Brooks said he wasn't ever riding that again. I felt kind of guilty and had to explain to him that he wouldn't have gone down that fast, if I hadn't been on it with him. Try explaining that to a child.

Newspaper

Our picture was in the newspaper on Saturday, after the boys and I went to the fair. I am going to post pictures that I took when I get back home. (We are at the beach.)

Here is what was in the paper:
And this one was online only.Needless to say, this was taken by a great photographer.

It's a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

Sunday, the First and Second grade classes at ACA put on a wonderful production called "Welcome to Our Neighborhood." I only teared up twice, which is pretty good for me. Here is all of the children, including "Mr. Rogers" in his red sweater. This is Queen Sarah. All of the cast members were wonderful! I have too many pictures to share them all here.
Brooks was chosen to be one of the trolley riders.

Mr. Art contacted Mr. McFeely and asked him for some autographs to give to the teachers for all of their hard work. Well, Mr. McFeely responded and asked if he could send one for all of the students too. That was the second time I teared up. How gracious of him. Here is one of the teachers showing them to the audience.

Then, Mr. Art asked the children to sing the closing song once more and asked the audience to join in. So there we all were, children and adults, singing...."It's such a good feeling to know you're alive, it's such a happy feeling, you're growing inside......"

It was such a wonderful experience for Brooks, AND ME!

Pumpkin Patch!

We made our second annual trip to Clanton to go to the "Grand Ole Pumpkin Patch" on Saturday. This year, since we went on a Saturday, Brent and my dad got to go with us.
Our attempt at a family shot.

Brooks took this picture. He did a pretty good job!

Going down the "ginormous" slide. I wouldn't go so far as to say he liked it, but he did it.
Reese climbing through the maze.
The pony rides.

One of the three teepees, that the kids can climb in.
Brent tolerated the hay ride quite nicely. (He is allergic to everything. And I mean everything!)

Reese trying to pick up one that he has spotted.

Brent and ReeseReese was so happy with his pumpkin!
We had a great day, and even discovered a nice little place to eat in downtown Clanton. I love these kind of family days!

Dark Side of the Moon

Yesterday, on the way home from daycare, Reese says..... "Mom, I want to go to the dark side of the moon."

Ummmmm......
What?

I started thinking...."Now where could he have heard Pink Floyd at?"

He then says, "The dark side of the moon is where outer space starts. I want to go to outer space. He then makes a rocket with his hands, counts down from 10 to 1, and shoots his hands into the air. I said, "Did you learn about space at school today?" He then told me that he had.

Whew!

The other day he was eating a snack and started coughing.
He said, "Mom, I need to go throw up."
"I am going to throw up."
"Wait, I have snack in my mouth. Let me swallow this."
"I can't throw up."
"Mom, if you push on my stomach right here, it will help me throw up."

Last week, he was at Gammie's house and walked up to her and murmured a "bad word" to her, "Stupid"
She said, "What did you say?"
He said, "I didn't say stupid."
She then threatened him with what discipline would be enforced if he said that again, and gave him "the look." He stared right back at her. He then made his eyes really big at her, as if to say, "I can stare right back at you." Gammie then looked down at her sewing, knowing that staring at Reese was not going to get her anywhere. He then said, "Gammie, I am still looking at you!"
