The South

Where tea is sweet and accents are sweeter; summer starts in April; front porches are wide and words are long; macaroni and cheese is a vegetable; pecan pie is a staple; Y’all is the only proper pronoun; chicken is fried and biscuits come with gravy; everything is darling and someone is always getting their heart blessed. -unknown

Wake up call

Reese coughed a little last night, but not enough that I would think something was wrong. He then woke up at 5 and Brent went and got him and brought him in the bed with us. Then we heard "the cough". I sat up and said, "that doesn't sound right." It was what all mom's would call the "barking seal" cough. I started getting ready, and told Brent to call his mom. (If you don't know, she is an E.R. nurse.) We called her and she told me to meet her at the hospital. I took Reese in and we had an unofficial visit with the doctor and a breathing treatment. It worked well and he seemed to be breathing a lot better. So off we went for the day. Later after Reese woke up from his nap it is like it started all over again. I called his mom, then our pediatrition, then we were off to the hospital again for an official visit. The doctor said he has RSV. So we had another breathing treatment and 3 prescriptions to fill. It has been a long day.

I am thankful to have Brent's mother in my life anytime. But I am extra thankful for her on days like this.

Reese is now asleep, in his car seat, in the crib, so he will stay propped up. (I know some of y'all might think that is weird, but it works for us.) We thought about pillows to prop him, but he has never slept with a pillow. The car seat he is in is a convertible one, and we reclined it all the way. He drifted off to sleep without even crying. He has been a real trouper.

Poor baby...I hope he gets better soon! Croup normally comes to our house several times during the winter. Luckily, we have avoided it this year.
