The South

Where tea is sweet and accents are sweeter; summer starts in April; front porches are wide and words are long; macaroni and cheese is a vegetable; pecan pie is a staple; Y’all is the only proper pronoun; chicken is fried and biscuits come with gravy; everything is darling and someone is always getting their heart blessed. -unknown

Trip Continued...

On Thursday we began our tour of the city on one of the local tour buses. It was a tour set up so that you could get on and off the bus at the different stops along the way. The first stop we got off at was the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. Our tour guide said that if you think it is beautiful on the outside, then wait until you see the inside.

On the historical marker below it mentions that much of the structure was destroyed by fire in 1898. Inside there were a couple of pictures of what it looked like after the fire. I am still amazed that they were able to rebuild the place in 2 years, especially since their resources during that time were very limited, compared to today.Luckily when we arrived it was one of the times when the inside was open for viewing.

This was one of the MANY stained glass windows inside.
This next picture was of the front of, what I would call an auditorium, but I know that isn't the correct terminology, so forgive me. There were so many ornate and beautiful things to look at. This picture was looking back toward what I would call the balcony.
It was well worth the stop along the way to see this!!!

More to come.....

I'm really jealous! I've always wanted to go to Savannah. You can take a train ride from here to there. Maybe we will plan on doing that when baby girl gets a little older.

Savannah is a great city! I love the stained glass. Why don't we build buildings like that today? However, it is was in my church I might not hear any of the sermon because I would be staring at the windows.
