See you later alligator!

I am just now getting around to writing about Brent's success at alligator hunting. Alligators are federally protected, so Brent had to apply to be able to hunt them. The hunting season lasts for 2 weekends, in an area that is designated to you. In this state, it is either Eufaula or Mobile/Delta Area. Brent was chosen for the Eufaula area. He went both weekends to both areas with some good friends of his who had hunted alligator previously. I am proud to say that Brent was 1 of 3 that went to Eufaula who got an alligator.
So Monday we got to enjoy the "fruits of Brent's labor".

This was just the plain battered ones.

These were the black pepper battered ones. And these were the best. These were the buffalo style ones.

Brooks and Reese loved it!Brent cooked it all himself. I am glad he had such a great time!

Louise also posted a couple of posts on her blog that included pictures of the hunt. These were week 1 and these were week 2.

Wow, that's a scary animal! Looks like they had fun though. I can't see myself trying the meat...you're a brave girl!!

I totally agree with Leah. He looks like he could still jump out and bite you even though he's dead...and I really doubt that I could try the meat.

I know I could not eat it. Brent should have been at my father-in-laws house. He lives in Galveston, TX and after a storm hit a few months ago, he had a 6 foot alligator in his front yard!

That is awesome. I love the taste of alligator.

All alligator meat is edible and it is all white meat except for the legs, which are red meat. Eating the gator isn't nearly as frightning as opening up the freezer to see the gator's head staring at you!

I want federal protection to ensure that I never have to hunt an alligator! Yikes! He is brave! The meat looks pretty yummy, though. I think I could try it, I just wouldn't want to talk about it in front of a gator.

Hi! :) Chris Hodges' wife here--Ashley. I remember when Brooks was just a new new baby at Chris & Dawn Howell's wedding-times flies! Your boys are Adorable! :) Those gator pics are so cool (the one of the ReddyIce all piled up on top of the gator cracks me up)--it's amazing that they were able to catch that beast (only country boys - haha)! ;) The buffalo style alligator looks yummy {I'd give it a try}! Glad I found your blog (just happened to come across it by blog hopping - and then recognized your familiar faces/names - small blog world)! :D

I have GOT to show this post to my boys...they will freak with excitement!! My parents have alligators in their pond behind their house in Towne Lake. I'm sure they'd love for Brent to catch them!! :-)

I don't think I'd go alligator hunting. But I have eaten alligator...it's not too bad. Strangely, I was in Oklahoma at the time. I was laughing because it was at a crab shack, and I had a roommate from Jacksonville, FL at the time who refused to eat seafood in Raleigh because it was too far inland (3 hours), and there I was in Oklahoma chowing down on seafood and alligator.
